Project overview:
In 2013, Jason’s partner of 23 years suffered a severe breakdown. Battling depression was nothing new, but this time she was unable to function on even a basic level. Jason took on the role of primary caretaker and devoted himself to helping her get well. It wasn’t long before he learned that for years she had been living a double life. Despite this revelation, Jason continued to take care of her. For the next eight months, he devoted himself to helping her get well, but he proved no match for her demons and they eventually went their separate ways.
In Murder of Birds, Jason uses street photography to tell the story of those eight months. This carefully cultivated series of 17 images, made during this time, is used to tell the artist's broader personal story, unrelated to the time and place of each individual photograph.
